A country well-known more for an economic meltdown and a volcano than perhaps anything else, Reykjavik is one of those places I’ve always wanted to use as an extended layover on my way to Europe.
Alas, that’s never happened, but the country is probably best known for a volcano that disrupted world travel. The awesomely-named Eyjafjallajökull (whose name I could never begin pronounce) is probably turning into a tourist destination at this rate.
Any location that hugs the ocean — even in sub-zero temperatures — intrigues me, not to mention the mountain views indicated in the above photos. And after a brutally hot summer on the East coast of the United States, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to see some snow.
Sunlight is short, but while traversing the Atlantic, there are few places that sound more appealing than stopping through on this tiny little island.
