D.C. United was back in action in the reserve league today, tying 2-2 after going two goals down to tie the New England Revolution.
Five Academy players took the field as I detail here, but most notable Charlie Davies left the field after picking up a knock — he was holding his hamstring. Chad Ashton told me that he was fine afterwards that that it was all precautionary right now.
As far as the Academy guys go, Collin Martin is extremely promising, and score a goal. The attacking mid is a U-16 player who led the team in scoring this season.
Jed Zayner and Dax McCarty were also back in action and should be available for Saturday’s game against San Jose.
What was destined to be a draw turned into a 1-0 win thanks to a sensational Lauren Cheney goal.
When is the last time the men’s team scored a goal like that? Impressive.
East Coast D.C. United/MLS fans, get ready to stay up late. Tonight’s MLS Game of the Week kicks off at 11 pm ET, as D.C. United takes to the Home Depot Center to face a tough test against the LA Galaxy.
D.C. will be able to call on leading scorer Charlie Davies and Dax McCarty, both who weren’t available against Portland on Sunday. It’s good news for D.C., who need to score first — as they always need to — if they hope to get something out of the road matchup out west.
The game will look much different than the small confines of JELD-WEN Field, as D.C. gets the chance to play on the spacious surface of the Home Depot Center. However, they are ready to adapt to that and continue the unbeaten streak of four games in league play.
News on the injury front is looking up as well, despite defender Dejan Jakovic coming down with an injury while away on international duty with Canada. He’s going to miss the next few weeks regardless, but it’d be a blow for him personally to miss out on the Gold Cup.
Here’s my take on the lineup: Continue reading ‘A Look Ahead to D.C. United-LA Galaxy’
A look at Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones and Tim Howard on the challenge of playing on loan in England. Part two of the U.S. men’s web series on Americans in England.
The U.S. Under 20s let a 3-1 lead get away from them in France on Monday, tying 3-3 in a friendly in Vichy.
Conor Doyle, Luis Gil, and Josh Gatt all got on the board for the U.S., who took a 2-1 lead into the break. Gil’s goal in the early stages of the second half gave the U.S. a two-goal advantage, but France’s Anthony Knockaert scored twice to ensure the game ended in a tie.
A second friendly will be played Thursday, May 19.
